Latitude of Memory
Latitude of Memory explores the feeling of home and belonging across two shores—Hong Kong and Canada. Across four panels, the faded lines of the Union Jack form a subtle grid that connects both regions’ shared history. Overlaid with maps, mountains and coastlines, Indigenous motifs, and urban icons, the painting blends personal memory with culture and landscape. Using iconic colours—red, blue, and white—softened through translucent glazes, the work reflects how time and distance transform our memories. Ultimately, it frames identity not as a fixed location, but as an ongoing journey between two worlds.

Apertures of Being
Apertures of Being explores the shifting states of identity, place, and atmospheric memory across two geographic realities—Canada and Hong Kong.
The diptych establishes a sensory dialogue through contrasting color temperatures and a rich interplay of tactile textures. Smooth, dense impasto layers and rough, concrete-grained plaster evoke the heavy, vertical materiality of Hong Kong’s urban landscape, while subtle wood-grain motifs and delicate collage textures reflect the organic warmth of Canadian timber structures. Nested rectangular frames act as symbolic apertures, representing distinct vantage points gained from living between two worlds. Threaded across both compositions is a fine, translucent red line—a subtle vector of lineage, bloodline, and memory that remains unbroken across distance.
Ultimately, the work asks: what do you see through the apertures?
